Kingston Takeovers Town Restaurant in Ottawa
Foodies Meet Kingston
On Monday, September 22, 2012 we
brought a taste of Kingston, Ontario to Ottawa, spreading the word on the
hidden gem that is local dining in the limestone city. It was a night of fabulous
wine, tremendous people, conversation and food that could not been
fresher.
Town restaurant on Elgin St. in Ottawa |
We traveled to Town restaurant downtown
Ottawa to take it over for the evening by one of our famous Kingston chefs. Clark
Day, of Aqua Terra by Clark headlined the takeover, performing like a
true artist. Clark's passion for local and fresh food bursts through
ever bite of the five course meal he and his expert team prepared.
Clark Day and food crew! |
Here's what the crowd got to enjoy;
First Course:
Kaffir lime and holy basil fresh cheese
served with Prince Edward County heirloom tomato salad. The homemade
cheese was superbly prepared by a local vendor and the taste
reflected the hard work.
Second Course:
Duck and rabbit terrine with confited
plums aromatized with rosemary and garlic served with spelt focaccia
crostinis.
Third Course:
Pan Seared county perch with oven
roasted purple sweet potato, candied golden beats with vibrant
watercress veloute. The perch had just been caught that past weekend,
meaning it couldn't have been fresher.
Fourth Course:
Cheese lovers rejoice! Bush garden
organic raw milk pilgrimage cheese with Bayview Farm spicy crabapple
jelly.
Fifth Course:
Sous vide county pears and apples, with
bittersweet chocolate pate, infused crème anglais and juniper tuile.
This final course capped off the entire menu perfectly, the richness
of the chocolate combined with the refreshing fruit made for an
incredible treat for your taste buds.
The guests were filled to the brim and raving over the evenings feast. A huge thanks goes out to Chef Clark Day and his stellar team. Also, this night couldn't of been possible with out the amazing local food and wine from Kingston and the county.
The Perfectly Paired Wine From the County:
- Harwood Estate Vineyard
- Rosehall Run Vineyard
- Stanners Vineyard
- Sandbanks Winery
- Huff Estates Winery
The menu was prepared with exclusively
local area food from such producers as;

The Royal Drummers & Dancers of Burundi in Kingston
Live at the Grand Theatre
In Kingston October 16, 2012One of the greatest percussion ensembles in the world, the Royal Drummers and Dancers of Burundi have performed in the same way for centuries, passing down traditions and techniques from father to son. Their performances are as much a spectacle of dance as music.
A dozen great log drums, made from hollowed-out tree trunks covered with dried animal skins, are pounded by the drummers in traditional Burundi costume.
"… a celebration of ability, the sheer pleasure of competitive creativity, and - strikingly similar to what happens in a jazz jam session - more virtuosic than sentimental." — The New York Times

Diana Krall In Kingston With The Glad Rag Doll Tour
Mark Your calendars for February 28th, 2013
After nearly a 4 year absence from Canadian concert stages, multi Grammy award winning jazz vocalist / pianist Diana Krall returns with her “Glad Rag Doll” tour, in celebration and in support of her new Verve CD “Glad Rag Doll” which is being released this week. With this new recording Diana Krall continues her incredible and distinctive takes on some of the past century's most memorable songs.
This time she has borrowed from her father's old 78 RPM Records collection for inspiration and turned to renowned producer T-Bone Burnett as a collaborator to bring these great gems back to life. These songs, first penned between the two world wars, were influenced largely by the bluesy sound of the Prohibition era, and Diana's treatment here remains true to that sound.
This tour will feature many of those great jazz and vaudeville songs along with many of the great Standards that we have come to expect from this impeccable interpreter.
Visit Kingston February 28th at the OLG Casino Thousand Islands Theatre at the K-Rock Centre for what will surely be another great evening with the music of Diana Krall.
