Monster Mash in May! Frankenstein Musical / Comedy Hits The Grand Theatre

"It's alive! It’s alive!"

Those iconic words were penned by Mary Shelly, the creator of the timeless masterpiece that is Frankenstein. Wonder if she knew what she was starting with her 1818 Gothic novel; coined, “The Modern Prometheus.” There have been countless film and TV adaptations of the classic tale; one of the best being, Mel Brooks' 1974 twisted comedy, Young Frankenstein. The film went on to receive two Academy Award nominations, including best adapted screenplay and sound mixing.

The Mel Brooks Young Frankenstein Musical

Since than the comedic genius of Mel Brooks and Gene Wilder's script was transformed into a wickedly outrageous musical. This is also the most recent compilation from the team that brought us the 12-time Tony Award-winning hit “The Producers.” Mel Brooks developed the 2007 Broadway show with the vision of bringing more comedic madness to the table by  introducing spectacle songs and musical numbers that really dazzle audiences. Lucky for us, the American production is traveling all the way to Kingston, Ontario on May 24, 2012 to The Grand Theatre.

In the middle of singing the famous "Puttin' on the Ritz"

The classic tale, with a slick  twist

The setting: creepy Transylvania castle. The time: 1934. The story follows Dr. Frankenstein or or should I say “Fronk-en-steen” (insists on that pronunciation) on his journey to run from his family's past. After inheriting his grandfather's spooky castle and laboratory, Frankenstein dives into the world of mad experiments, hunchbacked sidekicks and dead reanimation, all while trying to get the girl of his dreams.

Don't be a creep Frankenstein!

Song list includes; “The Brain,” “Roll in the Hay,” “He Vas My Boyfriend,” “He’s Loose,” “Transylvania Mania” and the most loved, “Puttin’ on the Ritz.”

The reviews are glowing

New York Post
"THE BROADWAY MUSICAL AT ITS DIZZIEST, GLITZIEST AND FUNNIEST! Mel Brooks and Susan Stroman pull out every stop with DIVINE silliness and a touch of GENIUS. Brooks's lyrics are bright and witty. The book is GREAT. The scenery is DELICIOUS. The special effects are among THE CLEVEREST THINGS I'VE EVER SEEN ON STAGE." -Clive Barnes, New York Post
WNBC TV
"This RIOTOUSLY FUNNY musical will knock you clear across 42nd Street! It's all crazy, all witty, all zany Mel Brooks, and there is NO FUNNIER MAN ON THE PLANET. THERE ARE TWO GENIUSES AT WORK IN THE THEATER...'YOUNG FRANKENSTEIN' AND MEL BROOKS!" -Jeffrey Lyons, WNBC TV
LA Times
"DELIGHTFULLY NUTTY! GLITTERING, BUOYANT FUN that TICKLES ITS AUDIENCE INTO HIGH SPIRITS. CLASSIC BROOKS!" - Charles McNulty, Los Angeles Times

If we've learned anything from the Frankenstein story it is this – experiments can go wrong...very wrong. But fun to watch!
