St. Lawrence War of 1812 Bicentennial Alliance Signature Event

The Flight of the Royal George

5 Tall Ships, 10 Gunboats and 24 Re-enactment Regiments bring history to life with a War of 1812 Naval Re-enactment in Bath and Kingston from June 29 - July 1, 2012.

1812 History Lesson

Kingston War of 1812, Event, History, Ontario In November of 1812 a fleet of American ships pursued the mighty Royal GeorgeAt 96 feet in length, the Royal George was Lake Ontario's flagship for the Provincial Marines. Built in Kingston three years before, the Royal George was armed with 22 32-pounder artillery guns and, if caught, was a sizable prize for the fledgling American navy

The Re-enactment

Bringing the dramatic pursuit alive (in warmer weather), The Flight of the Royal George will re-enact the chase of the ship by American vessels from Bath to Kingston. In the role of the Royal George is the Brig Niagara, a reconstruction of an American ship used during the Battle of Lake Erie in 1813.
Involving five tall ships, 10 gunboats and 24 regiments, The Flight of the Royal George will be the St. Lawrence region's biggest War of 1812 re-enactment for the 2012 season.
Re-enactors from across Ontario, Quebec and as far afield as Kentucky will set up camps in the Village of Bath and Fort Henry in Kingston. The re-enactment coincides with Canada Day programming in both Bath and Kingston.

Catch All the War of 1812 Action

Kingston War of 1812, Event, History, Ontario The naval action will begin on Saturday, June 30 at noon with the American pursuit of the Royal George. Viewing points are available to the public at Topsy Farms on Amherst Island, as well as Finkle and Centennial Parks in Bath.
Continuing on Sunday, July 1, the British forces will take back the village beginning at 10:30 AM, while the Royal George is pursued by the American fleet at 11:00 AM. Viewing points include Centennial Park and the grounds of Fairfield White House in Amherstview.
The action moves towards Kingston for 11:45 AM, with artillery engaging the American fleet at MacDonald Park, the continued pursuit of the Royal George near the Marine Museum at 12:45, and an American attack on Fort Henry and Fort Frederick at 13:00.

See you there!

The Flight of the Royal George will also include the grand opening of the new Lafarge 1812 Discovery Centre in Bath on Friday, June 29 at 11:00 A.M.
What better way to celebrate Canada than by commemorating the war that forged a nation?

Simple Pleasures - Enjoy Kingston's Waterfront Scenery

Your Summer Getaway Is Calling

One of the simplest pleasures of visiting Kingston is venturing downtown to the waterfront for fresh air, breathtaking scenery and hopefully some excellent company. What could be more perfect?

Here's some quick images I captured while downtown Kingston when my parents were visiting. Sightseeing by the waterfront is one of my parents favourite things to do while staying in the city, next to the shopping of course! Oh, how we longed to be out on a 1000 Island cruise that humid day.

Snapped a few shots with my phone...

Stone Temple Pilots En Route To Kingston This August

Performance announcement from The K-Rock Centre

Stone Temple Pilots will take the stage at The K-Rock Centre in Kingston, Ontario on August 19th, 2012.

Since the moment they appeared on the scene in the early 1990's, Stone Temple Pilots dominated the decade from start to finish, racking up 15 singles on the Billboard Top Ten, winning a "Best Hard Rock Performance" Grammy Award in 1994 for “Plush,” and having their five albums sell more than 35 million copies worldwide.

Kingston, Ontario, Stone Temple Pilots, KRock Centre

Of all their peers, Stone Temple Pilots alone had sustained commercial success, earning greater critical acclaim with each release, building a body of work that remains popular and its enduring acclaim has only highlighted the absence of the band, who quietly went their separate ways after the turn-of the millennium release of Shangri-La Dee Da.

A dominant force in rock music

Since their inception, the group's impressively extensive and top-selling music has cemented their standing as one of the most successful rock groups of all time. In 2008 Stone Temple Pilots officially revealed that the band would be reuniting and launching a massive 2008 concert. This tour marked the first national tour for Stone Temple Pilots in almost eight years. The band enjoyed the experience of being back together and performing that they decided to bring the magic back in to the studio.

Stone Temple Pilots will release the Alive In The Windy City DVD on June 26th. Alive In The Windy City was filmed at the Riviera Theatre in Chicago and includes many of their classic hits, “Plush,” “Vasoline,” “Creep” and many more.

Kingston to Host Neil Young & Crazy Horse This Fall

Legends Live at The K-Rock Centre

Neil Young & Crazy Horse surprised fans with not only a new album titled "Americana" (their first album in nine years) but also with the announcement of their first tour together in over eight years. The even better news...They are coming to Kingston October 5, 2012 at The K-Rock Centre.

Amazing Concerts in Kingston

Seems as though music icons love traveling to Kingston during tours. The K-Rock Centre recently played host to Bryan Adams, Lenoard Cohen is performing live in December and now the Neil Young announcement! What a glorious year for concerts in our city.

“Americana” is a rich collection of classic American compositions, some dating back 200 years or more and each has its own unique history veiled with multiple meanings and relatable, lyrical significance as applicable today as they were in the America of yesteryear. Have a look at the following video links for a view into our past as evidence: Oh Susanna, Jesus' Chariot (She'll Be Coming Round The Mountain), Clementine.
