Don't Miss The Fort Henry 2012 Tattoo

This weekend on Saturday, July 28

It’s a music lover’s dream - the marriage of finely tuned pipes, big brass and booming bass drums, unified for a grand performance on the parade square of Ontario’s only UNESCO World Heritage Site.

events, kingston, ontario, fort henry, tatoo

This is a one of a kind show that celebrates military traditions dating back to the 1600’s. "Tattoo" is a derivation of “doe den tap toe”, which is Dutch for "turn off the taps", a call which is said to have followed the drum beats in many a pub, letting English soldiers know it was time to turn in for the night.

Fort Henry is proud to welcome this year, Ottawa’s Ceremonial Guard Band, Lorne Scots Pipes and Drums, Argyll and Sutherland Highlanders of Canada, 8 Wing RCAF Pipe Band, Cadets of HMCS Ontario, Toronto Signals Band, National Band of the Naval Reserve, and the Band of the Royal Hamilton Light Infantry to join the Fort Henry Guard Drums as guest performers.

Don’t miss the massed pipes and drums performance featuring over 75 highland performers, and marvel at the spectacular finale as 250 musicians take to the square to perform underneath an electrifying, exploding sky of fireworks!

Witness the Spectacle of 1812 Overture @FortHenry

Save the date - 7:30PM Saturday August 18, 2012

This August comes one of Fort Henry's premier special events, the 1812 Overture at the Fort, which features the Kingston Symphony Association.

The 1812 Overture is a truly unique spectacle that combines the grace and intensity of classical music with the power and precision of military practices in one breathtaking, historic venue.

Picture a parade square, surrounded by cavernous limestone walls, with a symphony of fifty five artists lit only by their reading lights, and a line of crimson Fort Henry Guard standing at attention in the distance.

The sweet sounds of the symphony drift and echo in every corner of the magnificent citadel, ensuring every seat in the house is witness to a first class performance. The show concludes with a spectacular cannon firing display and fireworks finale to Tchaikovskys' 1812 Overture.

In the words of legendary conductor Glen Fast - “Music is a journey best shared with others. Let’s all jump in and feel the rush!”
